Author Interview

1. For a new reader, what are the tropes included in the book?

In Amulet of Wishes there’s, found family, a quest, a queernormative fantasy world, and a main trio, friendship squad. Tropes for Lady Night include, a slow burn romance, it’s requited they’re just oblivious, and more found family.

2. What was your inspiration to write this book?

After Amulet of Wishes where we find out about Derek’s parents being killed when he was a child and that he was placed into the care of a man who abused him after that, I wanted the sequel to take some time to explore that trauma. Especially since the last book was about Derek trying to run away from it and make it go away. I thought, what better way to force him to face his trauma head on than by having him return to the place where it all happened?

3. On the scale of 1 to 10, 10 being something which has extremely dark romance, what level of smut exists in the book. Chronicles of the Guardians is pretty low on the smut rating at the moment. I’d give Amulet of Wishes a 1 and Lady Night a 3 since we’re introduced to two romance subplots and a fade to black sex scene.

4. Which character is your favorite and why?

I love all my characters, but I must admit that Derek has a certain special place in my heart, since he’s my main character and

Lady Night Excerpts

Excerpt #1 : “Who would have thought that I would be struck down with heartbreak over a boy? I’m Prince Jared Tobias Alaric Regalias, for Ithulia’s sake. I should be the one breaking hearts.”

Excerpt #2 : “He felt an ache in his chest as he gazed at faces in the portrait. An ache that he always felt whenever he looked at it. An ache that had not diminished even after all these years.”

Excerpt #3 : “Being strong doesn’t mean being unaffected. It doesn’t mean that you have to be made of stone. It means surviving and learning how to keep going after all the bad things have happened.”

Excerpt #4 : “In Ember, everyone seemed to walk around with a bounce in their step. They smiled at one another as they passed by, calling out cheerful greetings and pausing in the streets to talk about how beautiful their neighbour’s roses were looking or to ask a friend for the recipe to their carrot cake. In Windfell, everyone was much more sombre, looking either sad or irritable as they shuffled up and down the streets, grumbling about the cold or trading insults and gossip like it was coin.”
